Sobreviviente (Survivor) is a site-specific video installation created for the rooftop of the School of Architecture, Design and Urbanism at the University of Buenos Aires. Two rear projections juxtapose visual references to three key sites in the city’s historical, social, and political landscape: Jorge Newbery Airport; the Monumental Stadium, the largest soccer stadium in Argentina; and the Escuela de Suboficiales de Mecánica de la Armada (ESMA), the principal detention and torture center during the military dictatorship of 1976–1983.
The sound composition—blending human voices with the turbines of airplanes—merges with the ambient noise of air traffic from the nearby airport, collapsing representation and environment into a single acoustic field.
These sites exist in close geographic proximity, forming a charged and layered urban territory. Sobreviviente offers a critical visual inquiry into how urban space is conceived, organized, and constructed, and how institutions shape collective memory and everyday life. Situated within the School of Architecture itself, the installation transforms the building into a platform for reflection on the historical and contemporary roles of these structures.

Sobreviviente es una instalación de video site-specific creada para la azotea de la Facultad de Arquitectura, Diseño y Urbanismo de la Universidad de Buenos Aires. Dos proyecciones traseras yuxtaponen referencias visuales a tres sitios clave en la historia social y política de la ciudad: el Aeroparque Jorge Newbery; el Estadio Monumental, el estadio de fútbol más grande del país; y la Escuela de Suboficiales de Mecánica de la Armada (ESMA), el principal centro de detención y tortura durante la última dictadura militar (1976–1983).
La composición sonora—que combina voces humanas con el sonido de turbinas de avión—se mezcla con el paisaje acústico ambiental del tráfico aéreo proveniente del aeropuerto cercano, superponiendo representación y entorno en un mismo campo sonoro.
Estos sitios se encuentran en estrecha proximidad geográfica, conformando un territorio urbano complejo y cargado de significados. Sobreviviente propone una exploración visual crítica sobre cómo la urbanidad es conceptualizada, organizada y diseñada, y cómo las instituciones moldean la memoria colectiva y la vida cotidiana. Situada en la propia Facultad de Arquitectura, la instalación convierte el edificio en un espacio de diálogo y reflexión sobre el papel histórico y contemporáneo de estas estructuras.
